Adult Dance Classes in St. Pete, Even If You've Never Danced

Group classes and private lessons for complete beginners. You do not need experience, a partner, or a fitness level. You need 30 free minutes to see what this actually feels like.

You’ll hear directly from Ivan.

The group class

Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM

Wednesday

7:00 PM

  • Open to the public
  • Made for beginners
  • No partner needed
  • $20, alone or as a couple

A different dance each week

Salsa one week, Swing or Bachata the next. You learn alongside other adults who are figuring it out too, and nobody expects you to know a step when you walk in. Come once or make it a habit.

Then Friday, when you're ready

The practice party is Friday at 7:45 PM. It is where the steps turn into actual dancing, and where you get to know the people you have been learning with.

Schedules can occasionally change, so a quick call or text to (727) 304-5904 before your first visit makes sure you arrive on the right night. See this month's calendar.

Classes or lessons?

Both, in the order that suits you

Some adults want a room full of people. Some want one-on-one attention first. Most end up doing a little of each.

Group class

Learn alongside other beginners, at a relaxed pace, with a different style each week. Social, low pressure, and a good way to meet people who dance.

Private lessons

One-on-one, or as a couple. The pace, the corrections, and the dances are all yours, which makes it the quickest way to feel comfortable. Couples preparing a wedding dance start here.

More about private lessons

The easiest way in

  1. This week Free 30-minute private lesson
  2. Wednesday 7:00 PM Group class, already knowing the basics
  3. Friday 7:45 PM Practice party, whenever you feel ready

You walk into your first class while everyone else is still finding their feet. After that, decide what you want.

Who this is for

Adults who have never danced

Never danced, never mind

Complete beginners are normal here. You are not expected to arrive knowing a step, a count, or what to do with your hands.

Coming alone

You do not need to bring anyone. Plenty of people start on their own, and coming solo is ordinary here, not something to explain.

Starting later than you planned

Coming back after decades away, or starting for the first time at 60 or beyond. Partner dancing is something you can learn as an adult and keep for life.

How it works

Three steps to the floor

  1. Say hello

Book the free lesson online, or call or text (727) 304-5904. Ivan answers, and you can ask anything before you decide.

  2. Come as you are

30 private minutes in comfortable clothes and everyday shoes that are not too sticky. You try a few basics, hear the count, and see how it actually feels.

  3. Walk into Wednesday

Join the 7:00 PM group class already knowing the basics. Then choose what suits you: group, private lessons, or both.

Why adults start here

What makes it easier to begin

The first lesson is free, and private

A real 30-minute private lesson, not a group trial. No payment, and no obligation afterwards.

You talk to Ivan

I wanted to learn to dance at 68. Ivan and all of the instructors have been great. They are very professional in that they teach not only the steps but also the details and explain why each is important.

Dance Passion is a warm and friendly place to learn how to dance from excellent instructors! There is no need to feel weird about not having a partner because there are always others to dance with!

Good to know

Common questions

Do I need any experience?

No. Most people who come to Dance Passion are complete beginners. You do not need a background, rhythm, or any "natural talent", just a willingness to try. We start wherever you are.

Do I need a partner?

No. You are welcome on your own or with a partner. Plenty of people come solo, and you can still learn and enjoy it.

What is the difference between a private dance lesson and a group class?

A private lesson is individual: the feedback, the corrections, the pace, and the goals are all yours. In a group class an instructor cannot make everything that personal, and Ivan would rather not single someone out in front of the room for every detail. A group class gives you a shared, social place to learn alongside other people. Private and group lessons can also work well together.

How much do lessons, classes, and dance parties cost?

Your first 30-minute private lesson is free. After that, the Wednesday group class is $20 and the Friday dance party is $20, the same price whether you come alone or as a couple. Call or text Ivan at (727) 304-5904 for private lesson rates and a plan that fits your goals.

What dances do you teach?

Ivan teaches ballroom and Latin social dancing for all levels. The weekly group class rotates through styles like Salsa, Swing, and Bachata, and private lessons can cover classic ballroom and Latin dances too. Tell Ivan what you would like to learn and you will work on it together.

Am I too old to start dancing?

There is no required age to start. Ivan once taught a woman who began dancing at 87, kept dancing for about five years, and even took part in competition, and what she told him again and again was that she wished she had started earlier. You do not have to feel like "a dancer" before you begin.

Can singles and couples both come?

Yes. Singles, couples, friends, and wedding couples are all welcome, and the free first lesson works the same way for everyone.

What should I wear?

Just wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and shoes that are comfortable and not too sticky on the floor. You do not need special dance shoes for your first lesson.
