Who this is for

Adults at every starting point

Complete beginners

Most people here started from zero. No experience needed, and nothing to prepare before you come in.

Coming on your own

You do not need to bring anyone. Plenty of people learn here solo, in private lessons and in the group class.

Couples

Learn something together at a pace that fits both of you — for a night out, an anniversary, or just for the two of you.

Wedding couples

First-dance preparation, with custom choreography and song editing support when those fit what you want.

Social dancers

People who want to enjoy a dance floor rather than compete — the Wednesday class and the Friday practice party are built for exactly that.

Returning and experienced dancers

Coming back after time away, or already dancing and want to go further? Lessons pick up from where you actually are.

Some students are working toward something specific. Others simply want a hobby they can keep — Ivan has students who have been taking lessons for well over fifteen years, and couples who keep coming back because they enjoy dancing together.

Never danced before?

That is the normal starting point here

You do not need previous experience, a partner, or any natural sense of rhythm before your first lesson. For someone who has never danced at all, Ivan usually suggests starting with a private lesson, because it can be shaped around you instead of a set routine — though the Wednesday group class is open to beginners too.

Most people are a little nervous walking in. The first few minutes are deliberately relaxed: Ivan introduces himself, asks what brought you in, and usually has you laughing before you dance a step. There is no audience and no judgment.

If you have genuinely never danced, there is a longer guide to what happens when you start from zero — how the first lesson works, what to wear, and when you can expect to be dancing socially. See private lessons for how one-on-one time works, or start with the free lesson and decide afterwards.

How lessons actually start

Two things people ask before booking

How do we decide which dance to start with?

If you already know what you want to learn, that is where the lesson starts. If you do not, Ivan asks a few questions first — why you want to dance, where you expect to be dancing, what music you actually listen to, and whether there is a particular event, song, or dance behind it.

Those answers usually narrow things down quickly. If nothing stands out yet, he may introduce a few of the classic dances — Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Waltz — to see which one suits you. It is not a fixed sequence, just a way of finding what you will enjoy.

What if I have no rhythm?

You do not have to arrive able to hear the beat. Ivan teaches rhythm through more than one sense at once: you see the movement, you hear it counted and explained, and you move through it together with him.

A strong, clear beat, very simple movement, and repetition do most of the work. Rhythm is something you build during lessons, not something you need beforehand.

The same goes for the small habits beginners tend to start with — stopping and starting, taking steps that are too large, and sometimes bouncing. They are ordinary, and they are exactly what lessons are for. If you are not sure where to begin, book the free lesson or call or text (727) 304-5904.

Common questions

Do I need any experience?

No. Most people who come to Dance Passion are complete beginners. You do not need a background, rhythm, or any "natural talent" — just a willingness to try. We start wherever you are.

Do I need a partner?

No. You are welcome on your own or with a partner. Plenty of people come solo, and you can still learn and enjoy it.

Can singles and couples both come?

Yes. Singles, couples, friends, and wedding couples are all welcome, and the free first lesson works the same way for everyone.

What dances do you teach?

We teach ballroom and Latin social dancing for all levels. Our weekly group class rotates through styles like Salsa, Swing, and Bachata, and private lessons can cover classic ballroom and Latin dances too. Tell us what you would like to learn and we will help you get there.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. Private lessons are one-on-one (or one couple) with your instructor, so the pace and the dances are tailored to you. Your free first lesson is a private lesson.

Do you offer group classes?

Yes. Group classes are a fun, low-pressure way to learn alongside other people and meet the community.
